A Humanist Ceremony for Ruth and Sam
Ruth & Sam’s beautiful Humanist Wedding Ceremony took place in the ancient woodland circle at Wellington Wood, Norfolk on a beautiful September day.
After several meetings, at my home, the pub and at Wellington Wood, we created a ceremony totally bespoke to Sam and Ruth that perfectly reflected their love for each other and of the natural world and the closeness they felt with their family and friends.

A perfect woodland setting nestled in Norfolk
The canopy in the woods allows light to filter through creating the perfect atmosphere for an intimate and natural ceremony -perfect for this pair of tree lovers!
Because the natural setting is so impressive Ruth and Sam worked with their sustainable florist, Natalie, to create arrangements that worked with rather than against the backdrop. A huge floral hoop provided the perfect addition along with other arrangements that could easily be moved to the Giant Hat Tipis after the ceremony.
Ruth carried a gorgeous hand tied arrangement and wore flowers in her hair to match.
Symbolic Elements
Included in their ceremony were several symbolic elements that were important to Ruth and Sam, a ring warming, hand tying and tree planting.
The ring warming began and ended with their two young nephews who did a fantastic job! The ribbons for their hand tying held deeply personal and significant meaning for them and were adorned with special gems and stones and they chose to plant a Rowan tree as a symbol of courage, wisdom and protection using soil from their own and parents’ gardens.

Ruth and Sam exchanged beautiful personal vows, the same ones they had exchanged on their legal wedding day.

Sam and Ruth planted their tree with their family which will be taken to plant in their own garden.

There were beautiful and meaningful readings and special music all rounded off with a confetti shower and even Ruby their gorgeous pup was included in the celebrations!
Unique elements stretched throughout the rest of Ruth and Sam’s day from the cheese tower to the coconut rum shots, ice cream cart and their ‘first last dance’…it really was a day to remember. Ruth and Sam were thrilled with their ceremony and being surrounded by all the love and joy of their families and friends is a feeling they will never forget.
“From the first moment we met Jamie (via zoom, thanks to COVID!) we knew she was the perfect person to lead our wedding ceremony. Throughout the whole process of planning our ceremony she was supportive and had so many ways to incorporate all our ideas into the perfect ceremony. On the day, she was a calming and wonderful presence who personified ‘love’. All our guests loved her and said how personal and wonderful our ceremony was. She led our woodland ceremony with enthusiasm and humour, and it was a beautiful, spiritual time we will remember forever. We cannot thank her enough! Both sets of parents were wowed by our ceremony and everyone there finally understood why we’d wanted to do it all over again. We are so pleased we found you!” Ruth & Sam
